Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé Revealed With 544 PS, 800 km Range and 600 kW Charging

Mercedes-AMG has expanded its new four-door GT family with the GT 53 4-Door Coupé, an all-electric performance model positioned as the entry point to the latest GT range. Despite its position in the lineup, the new model delivers up to 400 kW, equivalent to 544 PS, while combining dual-motor all-wheel drive with long-distance electric range and high-performance charging technology.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé is scheduled to go on sale in Germany from 13 August 2026, with prices starting at €115,430. The model introduces a 106 kWh usable battery, an 800-volt electrical architecture and DC charging capability of up to 600 kW.

544 PS From a Dual-Motor Electric Powertrain

The GT 53 uses two permanently excited synchronous electric motors, one positioned at each axle. Together, they generate up to 400 kW (544 PS) and 800 Nm of maximum torque, while continuous output is rated at 270 kW (367 PS).

Mercedes-AMG claims the GT 53 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, or 3.5 seconds when measured using the 1-foot rollout method. Top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h, while the optional AMG Driver's Package increases the maximum speed to 250 km/h.

The rear electric drive unit uses a two-speed transmission. First gear is designed to support stronger acceleration from low speeds, while the second gear is optimised for high-speed performance, motorway efficiency and long-distance driving. The front motor operates as an intelligent boost unit and can disconnect when additional traction or power is not required.

106 kWh Battery and Up to 809 km of Range

At the centre of the GT 53 is a 106 kWh usable high-voltage battery operating on an 800-volt architecture. Mercedes-AMG uses directly cooled cylindrical battery cells, with each cell individually surrounded by a non-conductive cooling fluid to help maintain consistent operating temperatures.

The battery uses 2,660 cells arranged across 18 modules. According to Mercedes-AMG, the technology has been developed to maintain performance during sustained high-load driving while also supporting long electric range.

Preliminary WLTP figures indicate a combined driving range of between 682 and 809 km, depending on the final vehicle configuration. Urban WLTP range is listed at between 761 and 880 km.

Up to 600 kW DC Fast Charging

One of the GT 53's biggest technical highlights is its claimed DC fast-charging capability of up to 600 kW when connected to compatible 800-volt charging infrastructure. Mercedes-AMG states that the car can recover up to 534 km of WLTP range in approximately 10 minutes under the required charging conditions.

The battery can also operate with 400-volt charging infrastructure, with the vehicle automatically adapting between 800-volt and 400-volt charging modes. Mercedes-AMG quotes a 10 to 80 percent DC charging time of around 11 minutes under suitable conditions.

AMG Six-Cylinder Sound in an Electric GT

Mercedes-AMG is also taking a different approach to the emotional side of electric performance. In the AMGFORCE Sport+ drive programme, the GT 53 can simulate gear changes and reproduce the character of an AMG inline-six engine.

Rather than relying on a generic synthetic sound, AMG says its engineers digitally captured and analysed the characteristics of a real 3.0-litre AMG inline-six engine through extensive recording and testing. The result is designed to create a more authentic connection between acceleration, throttle inputs and the car's acoustic feedback.

When AMGFORCE Sport+ is activated, drivers can also use the steering-wheel paddles for simulated manual gear changes. The vehicle's display changes to support the more performance-focused driving experience.

AMG RIDE CONTROL and Performance 4MATIC+

The GT 53 is equipped with AMG RIDE CONTROL air suspension and adaptive damping. The system can continuously adjust its response at each wheel based on driving conditions and road surfaces, while drivers can select between Comfort, Sport and Sport+ settings.

AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive provides fully variable torque distribution between the front and rear axles. The system is designed to deliver strong traction during hard acceleration while maintaining precise handling and stability during higher-speed driving.

Active Aerodynamics for Performance and Efficiency

The new GT 53 uses a low four-door fastback design, with a long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen and a prominent rear section. Mercedes-AMG says the new GT 4-Door Coupé is approximately 40 mm lower than its predecessor despite housing the battery within the floor structure.

A standard active rear spoiler automatically changes its angle based on speed, acceleration and other vehicle conditions. At lower speeds, it remains retracted to maintain the clean exterior design. At higher speeds, it can deploy into different positions to balance stability, aerodynamic efficiency and downforce.

An optional active rear diffuser further improves airflow management at the rear of the vehicle and is designed to reduce drag, particularly during high-speed long-distance driving.

A Driver-Focused Electric Grand Tourer

Inside, the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 combines sports-car positioning with the practicality expected from a four-door grand tourer. The dashboard uses a seamless glass-style layout, while the 14-inch central display is angled towards the driver. An additional passenger display will also be available as an option.

The centre console includes the Response Control rotary controller, allowing drivers to independently adjust how sharply the electric motors respond to accelerator inputs. The response can range from smoother and more relaxed to a sharper, more immediate setting.

Other cabin highlights include front sports seats, individual rear seating, a panoramic SKY CONTROL glass roof and dual wireless smartphone charging pads. At night, AMG-specific ambient lighting and illuminated design elements add to the performance-focused atmosphere.

Customisable Driving Modes and Sound

The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT system offers six driving programmes: Comfort, Sport, AMGFORCE Sport+, Slippery, Eco and Individual. These settings alter the car's power delivery, suspension response, all-wheel-drive behaviour and other performance parameters.

Drivers can also customise the electric powertrain's sound through several profiles, including Powerful, Balanced and Minimal, with further adjustment between more classic and futuristic sound characteristics.

Sales of the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé in Germany will begin on 13 August 2026. Prices start from €115,430 in the German market, including 19 percent VAT.

Mercedes-AMG has not announced India-specific pricing or availability at the time of writing. If the model is introduced in India, final specifications, features and pricing could differ from the German-market version.
